WHY BE BAPTIZED?

COMMON QUESTIONS

BAPTISM IS ACT OF OBEDIENCE
We believe baptism is an act of obedience.  Peter tells us to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of our sins.  (Acts 2:38)  Baptism is an outward sign of inward transformation.

BAPTISM IDENTIFIES YOU WITH CHRIST
Baptism is a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ.  When you are baptized, you are baptized with Christ. (Romans 6:3)

BAPTISM UNITES THE CHURCH
Since baptism identifies us with Christ, it also unites us in the church.  (Ephesians 4:4-6)

BAPTISM IS SIGNIFICANT
Throughout the New Testament, a lot is said about baptism.  Romans 6 shares a lot of symbolism that can be confusing to understand.  Baptism is significant for a believer.  A meeting with a pastor can help you understand what the Bible shares about baptism and how it relates to you.

BAPTISM SYMBOLIZES NEW LIFE
Baptism is a public display that shows a new life in Christ.  For we are buried in death with Christ in baptism only to be reborn with Him into new life.  (Romans 6)

HOW WILL YOU BE BAPTIZED?
While we do practice sprinkling and pouring, Scripture and church tradition express the common practice of immersion like Jesus was baptized.  (Matthew 3:13-17)

IS BAPTISM A GUARANTEE OF GETTING INTO HEAVEN IF I DIE?
Baptism is not a shortcut to heaven.  For it is by faith you have been saved, through faith not by works lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

WHAT IF I WAS BAPTIZED AS AN INFANT?
Infant baptism is not clearly addressed in scripture. We believe baptism is for those who have made a personal decision to trust Christ alone for their salvation. If you were baptized as an infant, please discuss this with our pastoral staff. We will glad to help you decide if believer’s/adult baptism is right for you.

CAN MY CHILD GET BAPTIZED?
Your child can be baptized, but we would ask them to first speak with you and a pastor.
